Koh Samui BeachesThe island of Koh Samui is home to some of the best beaches in Thailand and features fine white sand and stunning turquoise seas. The main beaches are Chaweng Beach and Lamai Beach, but there are many that are less busy if your happy to take the time to discover these. Chaweng BeachBy far the busiest of all the beaches in Samui, Chaweng beach is host to many of Koh Samui's best hotels and offers the best nightlife scene with the many bars, clubs and beach parties that take place. Chaweng beach is 6 kilometres long and offers watersports from the hotels as well as private companies where you can hire jetski's, do a spot of surfing, ride speedboats and enjoy life in the sun whilst on your holiday.
Lamai BeachLamai beach, the second busiest beach on the island of Koh Samui is roughly 7 kilometres in length and can be found to the South of Chaweng beach. There is a good amount of nightlife in the area to accompany the many hotels, resorts & villa accommodation and the beach itself is less busy, though still has many activities to fill your day. Restaurants& bars line the beach and there is a large selection of food to sample from the different corners of the world. The sea is a little deeper and rougher in Lamai that that of Chaweng as there is no natural reef protection, but that said, with less people it can be more comfortable for those seeking less busy beaches. One of the most famous landmarks of Lamai and Koh Samui in general is the Grandmother & Grandfather Rocks, known locally as Hin Ta & Hin Yai which resemble the male and female genitalia.
Bangrak BeachAlso known as Big Buddha Beach due to the Big Buddha statue that overlooks the bay from the Wat (Temple) , this area is currently undergoing investment and re-development. With plenty of restaurants, a few hotels and bars this is a more relaxed area than the built-up Chaweng & Lamai beaches. The pier at Bangrak is where boats leave to neighbouring islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.
Choeng Mon BeachClassed by many as one of the nicest beaches on the island, Cheong Mon beach has more of an up-market feel to it, with many 4 star hotels dotted along its coast.
Bophut BeachBophut beach can be broken down into two distinct areas, Fishermans Village, a quaintand traditional Thai-Chinese village that is host to shops, stylish restaurants and bars, as well as boutique hotels. Fishermans Village is charming and should be visited by everyone on holiday to Koh Samui.
Maenam BeachOne of the larger beaches in Samui, Maenam beach is a wonderful place with lots of space and not too many tourists. Its the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing beach holiday and offers excellent accommodation at reasonable rates. We would recommomend this beach for families wanting to get away from the busy Chaweng & Lamai areas.
